This week I ran a Value Stream Mapping workshop on a quality control process. We mapped the current state, identified the waste to eliminate immediately, mapped the future state, and then developed the action plan to achieve it. Same recipe that most everyone follows.
From current state to future state is the goal but many years ago I realized that the Transition State is the most critical phase of any Lean Transformation because it is where change occurs.
The ability for people to adopt change can be enhanced significantly by using a method I call “Adopting Change” which leads people through the Transition State.
Beginning with alignment and ending with sustaining the change (the Future State), the five-step method to help people Adopt Change is what helps guide them comfortably through the Transition State.
